The movie's producers traveled across New Mexico to find some of the state's most remote locations. Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Spanish for "Blood of Christ", just north of Santa Fe, was chose to recreate the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.
Locations such as Antenna Ridge, Raven’s Ridge, Benny’s Jump and Loggers Cliff are 11,000 to 12,000 feet up in the mountains.
The Sangre de Cristo Mountains are also one of the most popular camping and skiing areas in the Southwest. In the summer, the 10 mile Aspen Vista is the most hiked trail in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. In the winter, cross-country skiers of all ages also hit this trail while downhill skiers gravitate to Ski Santa Fe.
