Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)
The Lars family homestead, home also to Uncle Lars and Aunt Beru (and R2D2 and C3PO), was shot in Tunisia, at Chott el Djerid, for the externals and the Sidi Driss Hotel, for the internals. Chott el Djerid is an expansive salt pan on the road between Tozeur and Kebili. Part of planet Tatooine’s other worldly look in the film is from the heat haze shimmering off the pan and the strange ground, which is crusted over with salt. Hôtel Sidi Driss has become one of the most famous filming locations of Star Wars, nicknamed the Star Wars hotel. It's a traditional Berber house, built centuries ago. It has been served as the home of Luke Skywalker on Tatooine for a number of Star Wars movies.
